“Business with a purpose...”

High Barn is committed to building eco-friendly houses, we believe in sustainable sustainability..doing the right things today and tomorrow.

We erect timber frames sourced from a company certified by The Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) dedicated to promoting Sustainable Forest Management (SFM).
Indeed we vet all of our suppliers to ensure we are sourcing locally produced materials, responsibly manufactured with minimal impact to the environment.

We promote a sustainable approach to construction and promote sustainability in the industry. Our houses are super-insulated meaning they need less heating, producing less CO2 into the atmosphere by consuming less fossil fuels.

High Barn also support several charities - in 2019 we donated and erected an outdoor classroom for the Hugh Myddleton School in North London, a facility where school children can be introduced to farm animals and learn about a countryside they rarely get to experience.

Our founder Simon Claridge is a Board Trustee of Soundabout - a charity registered in Oxford which provides engagement, education and enjoyment to people with Profound Multiple Learning Difficulties through Music.

Sustainable Sustainability...

Our sustainability interventions have evolved over the lifetime of the company.

2. Energy Efficiency: The focus on energy-efficient design and technologies aligns with the aim of reducing energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. This is a means to mitigate climate change and promote responsible energy use.

3. Quality of Life: Prioritising residents' well-being by providing ample natural light, outdoor spaces, and exercise areas reflects a commitment to enhancing the quality of life. HiBarn values creating comfortable and healthy living environments.

4. Affordability: Ensuring that homes remain affordable to heat and light over their lifespan aligns with the aim of making sustainable living accessible to a wide range of individuals. HiBarn values affordability to promote sustainable living for all.

5. Community Engagement: Actively promoting sustainability within local communities through outreach activities and collaboration with local businesses reflects a commitment to building sustainable communities.

6. Long-Term Sustainability: The use of durable, long-lasting technologies aligns with the aim of building homes that stand the test of time. HiBarn values sustainability as a long-term commitment.

7. Responsibility and Accountability: HiBarn's interventions demonstrate a sense of responsibility for environmental and social well-being as responsible business practices and being accountable for its actions. HiBarn also hold themselves partially responsible for the 'reduction of poverty' and minimise this by paying at least the living wage.

8. Innovation and Excellence: HiBarn's efforts to exceed regulatory requirements and seek innovative solutions align with the aim of achieving excellence in sustainable construction. The company values continuous improvement and innovation.

These interventions align with aims related to sustainability, environmental responsibility, energy efficiency, community engagement, and long-term commitment to sustainable practices.
